Holloman AFB, New Mexico (32°51′09″N 106°06′23″W)

Polar BEAR 130 field space heater was developed for the US Air Force Basic Expeditionary Aerospace Resource (BEAR) program and won the award, again, in a fully open international competition.

Holloman Air Force Base in New Mexico USA is one of the AFB’s with most BEAR heaters. It was named in honor of Col. George V. Holloman, a pioneer in guided missile research.


Sanem Central Regional Storage Facility, Luxembourg (49°32’53″N 5°55’44″E)

Sanem Luxembourg is a Forward Support Location dedicated to War Reserve Materiel storage. Most of Polar BEAR 130 field space heaters delivered to Europe were shipped to Sanem.

USAF’s BEAR base concept involves a combination of modules that create living and operating space for 550 people in harsh conditions. The concept includes sleeping quarters, shower and shave units, laundry, kitchen, latrine, electrical power, heating and cooling.

The United States Central Command (USCENTCOM) was established in 1983. Its area of responsibility (AOR) includes countries in the Middle East, North Africa, and Central Asia, most notably Afghanistan and Iraq.

Many of the Polar BEAR 130 field space heaters were delivered to AOR countries like Oman, Bahrain and Qatar.
